Performance boost and greater flexibility for high-end laser sensors

The optoNCDT 5500 laser triangulation sensor has been specifically enhanced: Increased performance and a speed boost to 150 kHz open up new possibilities for demanding automation tasks.

The high-performance optoNCDT 5500 laser sensor has received several key performance enhancements and upgrades. The sensor now achieves a measurement rate of up to 150 kHz across its entire measuring range, making it the world's fastest laser triangulation sensor to offer this rate without any range limitations.

Improved reproducibility of less than 0.04 µm ensures maximum precision, while enhanced ambient light resistance of up to 200,000 lux and temperature stability of up to ±0.008% dM/K guarantee consistently reliable readings. The series is now also available with an additional 50 mm measuring range and new fieldbus variants with an integrated Industrial Ethernet interface. This makes the optoNCDT 5500 even better suited for demanding, dynamic, and high-precision measurement tasks in modern automation environments.

Depending on the model, PROFINET or EtherCAT interfaces are available directly on the sensor, allowing the full sensor performance to be integrated into the PLC without an additional interface module. This reduces installation and wiring effort and enables real-time data without delay. For very fast measurement tasks, the sensor also offers an oversampling function. This allows measurement data to be acquired and transmitted up to 20 times faster – depending on the fieldbus – than the bus cycle time allows. The optoNCDT 5500-PROFINET also supports PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real-Time) for highly precise and deterministic data transmission. This makes the sensor ideally suited for highly dynamic applications with the highest demands on precision and real-time capability.

With its new 50 mm measuring range, the high-performance laser sensor now also covers applications requiring a medium working distance – such as in quality control, robotics, and industrial automation.
